As the Queen celebrates her 25th wedding anniversary with the King, her family and friends have paid tribute to her remarkable journey from a commoner to a royal consort.

Annabel Elliot, the Queen's sister, described her as the King's 'rock', while her close friend, Lady Lansdowne, said the fact that the couple had to 'fight' to be together has only strengthened their unshakeable 'bond'.

The Queen met the King when he was still Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, and she was a young journalist working for the Daily Mail. Their romance was met with opposition from some members of the royal family and the establishment, who deemed her unsuitable for the future king.

But the couple defied the odds and married in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey in 1998, after the King's divorce from his first wife, Princess Diana, was finalized. The Queen became the first commoner to marry a British monarch in more than 300 years.

Since then, the Queen has embraced her role as the King's partner and the nation's representative, accompanying him on official visits, supporting his charitable causes, and championing various issues such as mental health, education, and the environment.

And speaking publicly for the first time about the King and Queen's long relationship, Princess Anne – not known for her emotional effusiveness – gave her sister-in-law the royal seal of approval.

'I've known her a long time off and on. Her understanding of the role and how much difference it makes to the King has been absolutely outstanding,' she said.

'This role is not something that she'd be a natural for but she does it really well. She provides that change of speed and tone, that's equally important.'

The Queen has also won the hearts of the public with her down-to-earth personality, her sense of humor, and her style. She is often seen wearing bright colors and bold prints, accessorized with hats, pearls, and brooches.

She is also a devoted mother to her two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and a doting grandmother to her four grandchildren, Prince Louis, Princess Isabella, Prince Arthur, and Princess Alice.

The Queen and the King are expected to mark their anniversary with a private celebration at their country home, Highgrove House, where they will be joined by their family and close friends.

They will also receive congratulatory messages from the Prime Minister, the Commonwealth leaders, and other dignitaries from around the world.

The Queen has said that her marriage to the King is 'the best thing that ever happened to me' and that she is 'very lucky' to have him by her side.

The King, in turn, has praised the Queen as 'the most wonderful woman in the world' and 'the love of my life'.
