Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has emotionally shared her perspective on a past miscarriage during her marriage to EastEnders actor Shane Richie. The couple, who were married from 1990 to 1997, had two sons together, Shane Jr. and Jake. However, a third pregnancy ended in miscarriage, a loss Coleen now believes was for the best given their circumstances at the time.

Coleen, 59, opened up to The Irish Times, saying, “It was actually – a shocking thing to say – but actually it was the right thing, because nature decided. Because it wasn’t a great time for me to be pregnant again, really. Me and Shane weren’t really in a great place at that point and I thought, ‘oh Christ, I’ve got another one coming’.” She admitted that while the miscarriage was sad, it was also a relief as the couple was facing significant struggles.

The singer and TV personality has previously discussed the ordeal on Loose Women, recounting the harsh delivery of the news by a doctor. She explained that the unplanned pregnancy occurred just months after welcoming their son Shane. The doctor’s blunt confirmation of her miscarriage left her in shock, saying, “The doctor came over to my house, touched my stomach and said ‘yes you’ve lost the baby, get an appointment tomorrow and they can give you a scrape.’”

Coleen and Shane's relationship began in 1986, culminating in a spontaneous elopement to Florida after their elaborate wedding plans spiraled out of control. They later had a church blessing when Coleen’s father fell ill. Their marriage ultimately ended in 1999, two years after their initial split.

Following her divorce from Shane, Coleen married musician Ray Fensome, with whom she had a daughter, Ciara. That marriage ended in 2018. Currently, Coleen is in a relationship with Michael Jones, a supermarket worker she met on Tinder in 2021. Despite a rocky start, the couple is now living together and happier than ever.
