London, December 26, 2023 — The Crown star Dominic West recently opened up about a rift between him and Prince Harry following a press conference held after their joint charity trek to Antarctica in 2013. The two Old Etonians embarked on an ambitious journey as part of the Walking With the Wounded charity event.
During the ‘welcome home’ press conference, West praised the then-29-year-old Prince for his skills, which proved invaluable to the Commonwealth team during the trek. Prince Harry actively participated in tasks such as building latrines, demonstrating his commitment to the cause.
However, it was West’s candid revelation about the post-trek celebrations that led to the fallout. When asked about how the team marked the end of their arduous journey, West disclosed that Prince Harry had indulged in champagne, sipping it from a prosthetic leg. Not only that, but the Duke also entertained the group with “eye-wateringly rude jokes.”
The disclosure apparently did not sit well with Prince Harry, who subsequently cut off communication with West. Despite this, it’s worth noting that Prince Harry has previously acknowledged watching The Crown, the popular Netflix series in which West portrays Prince Charles.
The incident sheds light on the complexities of friendship, even among high-profile individuals. While their Antarctic adventure brought them together, a few ill-chosen words at a press conference drove a wedge between the actor and the royal.
