Dominic West, the star of The Affair and The Wire, has revealed what attracted him to the role of Prince Charles in the hit Netflix series The Crown.

The 54-year-old actor portrays the heir to the throne in the fifth and sixth seasons of the show, which chronicle the turbulent years of his relationship with Princess Diana and his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.

In an interview with The Graham Norton Show, which will air on Friday night, West said he was drawn to the "juicy" role despite the huge expectations from the fans of the show.

"It really appealed to me. There was enormous pressure going into the series because it was so successful, but it was such a juicy role I couldn’t turn it down," he said.

West added that he did a lot of research to prepare for the role, including watching documentaries, reading biographies, and studying the prince's mannerisms and speech patterns.

"I tried to get as close as possible to him, but also to bring something of myself to it. It was a challenge, but also a lot of fun," he said.

West also praised his co-stars, especially Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Princess Diana, and Olivia Colman, who plays Queen Elizabeth II.

"They are both amazing actors and wonderful people. We had a great chemistry on set and I think that shows on screen," he said.

The Crown, which has won multiple awards and accolades, is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows on Netflix. The fifth season is expected to be released later this year, while the sixth and final season will cover the events up to the early 2000s.
