The trial of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon, accused of killing their newborn baby, was disrupted on Wednesday as the Old Bailey was evacuated after 'explosions' were heard near the court.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after reports of a 'series of explosions' and 'black acrid smoke' coming from a nearby building. The cause of the incident is still unknown, but it is not believed to be terror-related.

Marten, 36, and Gordon, 49, who were on trial for the manslaughter of their daughter Victoria by gross negligence, were taken out of the court in view of the public. [^1^][1] They were later escorted back to the court by police officers.

The couple had allegedly been living with their newborn off-grid in a tent on the South Downs while on the run from police. They were arrested in Brighton last February after a tip-off from a member of the public. Victoria's body was found in a Lidl supermarket bag covered in rubbish in a disused shed]

The trial, which began on Monday, is expected to resume on Thursday. ]
