Meru, Kenya – Young DJ sensation Jaydee Wambui, popularly known as DJ Jdee, has been awarded a scholarship after impressing Chuka-Igambang'ombe Member of Parliament (MP) Patrick Munene with her exceptional DJing skills. The six-year-old's talent came to the MP's attention following a viral story by TUKO.co.ke.
DJ Jdee, who learned her impeccable spinning skills from her father, Morris Munene, was invited to MP Munene's house after the story about her went viral. Her father, who is not a professional DJ but keeps musical instruments for hire, revealed that DJ Jdee taught herself to DJ during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"He invited us to his home on Saturday, May 25, after the viral post on TUKO.co.ke. He was not aware of the kid's talent until the publication posted, but his wife is DJ Jdee's fan on TikTok. They were excited to see the girl is only 6 years old," said Morris Munene.
During their visit, DJ Jdee and her family spent the entire day at the MP's home, where she met and played with children her age. The scholarship will cover her education up to Grade Nine, and further support will be evaluated as she progresses.
MP Munene, affectionately nicknamed "Wakithomo," which means "person of education," is known for valuing education and supporting many students through the County Development Fund (CDF).
In addition to her scholarship, DJ Jdee has gained considerable attention for her impressive performances. During a recent interview on a local TV station, she wowed viewers with a remarkable mix session, seamlessly transitioning between genres such as dancehall, gospel, bongo, and afrobeats. Her confident performance and masterful turntable skills earned her praise from netizens, with some even requesting DJing classes from the young prodigy.
