Nairobi, Kenya- Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe was arrested on Friday, May 31, in connection with the fatal shooting of a boda boda rider in Thika two weeks ago. The incident, which took place on May 17, resulted in the death of David Nduati and serious injury to Anthony Kamau.
National Police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed the arrest, stating that Kagombe had been in hiding since the Thika shooting incident. DCI detectives, after conducting ballistic tests on firearms present at the scene, identified Kagombe's gun as the weapon that fired the fatal bullet.
The shooting incident occurred during a conflict between Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a and Kamenu Ward MCA Peter Mburu over the credit for the construction of the Sh55 million Kiganjo market in Kamenu Ward.
In the aftermath, DCI officers required all firearm holders present during the incident to surrender their weapons for ballistic testing. They also interrogated Ng’ang’a and Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge regarding the violence.
Kagombe is facing murder charges and is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Monday, June 3, for plea-taking.
