In a dramatic turn of events, Tosin Adarabioyo is set to join Chelsea on a free transfer, edging out Newcastle United and Manchester United in the race for the Fulham defender. The 26-year-old English centre-back is poised to undergo a medical with the Blues, according to reports.

Chelsea has been in fierce competition with Newcastle for Adarabioyo, with Manchester United also being mentioned as a potential destination. However, the West London club, under the impending management of Enzo Maresca, appears to have secured the former Manchester City player, who is out of contract this summer.

Sky Sports reports that the 6ft 4in defender will have his medical next week, having chosen Chelsea as his next club. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano states that negotiations are in the "final stages" after weeks of talks, making Adarabioyo likely to be Maresca's first signing following his move from Leicester.

Chelsea remains cautious until the deal is finalized but is currently the "clear favourites" to sign Adarabioyo. Fulham, on the other hand, has been prepared for his departure since he turned down their offer of a lucrative new contract.

Fulham manager Marco Silva acknowledged the ongoing speculation about Adarabioyo's future in May. "I know all the noise around him and his future, of course. I have a really close relationship with all the players, and everything is clear between myself and him. If Tosin is going to be on the pitch, he's going to be in the squad if I decide for him to be there."

Adarabioyo, a product of Manchester City's academy, joined Fulham in 2020 and has made 129 appearances for the club, becoming a crucial part of Silva's squad. Fulham is now looking to replace him, eyeing former Leicester defender Caglar Soyuncu as a potential replacement. Soyuncu, 26, spent the past season on loan at Fenerbahce after limited opportunities at Atletico Madrid.

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea's incoming manager, is highly regarded as an exciting young coach. The Italian, who previously worked under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, led Leicester to the Championship title in his first season. Known for his dedication and strategic mindset, Maresca is set to bring a new era to Chelsea.

As Chelsea fans await the official confirmation, the potential signing of Adarabioyo marks a significant move in the summer transfer market, promising to bolster the Blues' defense for the upcoming season.
